IGN’s Top 100 Modern Video Games

IGN has put together a top 100 of modern video games, where modern means “current generation”. The list is, as any other of its kind, very debatable, but the fair number of titles within the scope of our coverage makes it an interesting read nonetheless. Among the titles mentioned are:

100. Demon’s Souls
89. Dragon Age: Origins
81. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
75. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
63. Fable II
59. Puzzle Quest
42. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
35. Borderlands
18. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
6. Fallout 3
1. Mass Effect 2

Here’s what they had to say on BioWare’s sci-fi title, which took the top spot:

Though Mass Effect had more tried and true “RPG elements”, Mass Effect 2 packed some serious punch incredible vistas, a refined combat system and a storyline focused on character development in a way that we’ve never seen in a videogame before. Sure, the big bad robots called the Reapers are out there and ready to destroy everything, but the best part of Mass Effect 2 was learning about your teammates. The Normandy crew wasn’t comprised of the walking stereotypes you see in so many other titles, you got to know each individual over the course of the game and felt some sort of emotion toward them. Maybe you loved Tali or hated Grunt, but either way you had an opinion.
