Lionheart Reviews

Three new reviews of Lionheart have hit the web, with the first over at Gamer’s Depot with a score of 3.5/5. A snippet:

We found ourselves wanting the action to pickup a little more right off. Nothing to do with the story, there is enough filler here especially will the extra elements. The creatures need to be a little easier early on. Without recruiting the town crazy or immediately taking it to the net to join an online game, your early level progression may become more of a fight with patients than anything. Lack of gold resources unless you take advantage of the towns people through manipulation or getting them to fund whatever trickery you have presented them. Lack of gold means lack of potions, can’t buy what you can’t afford. After gaining a few levels you will begin to feel the upper hand as the early creatures become easier. There really is a lot to work with you will have to get through the early task driven beginnings that will lead to more than a couple of dead ends.

The second is at ZDNet Australia with a 7.5/10:

Lionheart is a missed opportunity. Developers Reflexive Entertainment clearly know how to sedate the hungry mouth of the RPG gaming community and for the majority of the game they achieve this goal. However, a weak final half coupled with a few niggly issues such as the sound leave a sour taste in the gamer’s mouth. Given the mainstream possibilities of its ‘alternate history’ approach it is a shame that this title remains a genre-addict only affair.

The third and final review is at RPGDot with a 60%:

In the end, Lionheart proves to be a heart-breaking disappointment from a company that, until now, has always seemed to hit RPG gold. Black Isle is working on several unannounced projects right now, so we can only hope that they offer a return to the aesthetics and gameplay that they have become known for. As for Reflexive, they may have a future as a RPG developer, but there will be a lot of lessons to learn from Lionheart, and one hopes that they’re listening.
