Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim Reviews

Several more reviews of Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim hit the Internet late yesterday, so let’s get them added to the previous pile.

GameSpot comes in with a 6.5/10:

In the end, all Majesty 2 offers is an interesting change of pace. The potential of a one-step-removed RTS game remains just as potent today as it was back in 2000, but there still isn’t much here aside from the cool bedrock concept. Replay value is minimal, due to the repetitive nature of solo missions and being forced to clear the same old monster dens in the four-player multiplayer maps. So as much as the still-unique design seems fresh and exciting at first for newcomers, and offers up a blast of nostalgia for Majesty veterans, the thrill wears off quickly.

Boomtown goes with an 8/10:

For me Majesty 2 is a refreshing strategy experience. The comical voiceover work and the unusual mechanics make it great fun to play. It is also satisfying to face a real challenge and you certainly get a sense of achievement from beating some of the tougher quests. The lack of direct control is strangely liberating and it works a lot better than you might imagine.

Diehard GameFAN hits it with a “Good Game!” rating:

If you long for the days when Dungeon Keeper played havoc with your free time, then Majesty 2 should be right up your alley. It’s both fun and has that parody humor so often seen in this genre such as in Evil Genius. Its flaws prevent it from being as good as those classic games but it’s still the best this genre is going to offer you for the very near future and is worthy addition to your strategy collection.

MassiveDamage levels a 7.5/10 at it:

But in all seriousness, I think the game has great potential. I personally know some modders that are already hard at work to make the AI more functional and I’m sure the map editor will be fully explored within a week. And if the developers choose to release new maps or a random scenario generator or something of that sort, I’ll be all over it. As I said before, the core gameplay is great. It’s refreshing, enjoyable, and quite solid. But the system built up around it is riddled with flaws that make the gameplay become stale and formulaic. I would advise anyone who is interested in city simulation-type games to keep an eye on this one. But without some support, either from the outside or from the developers themselves, it might not be worth your time.

Strategy Informer slaps it with an 8.5/10:

For those of you looking for something different, Majesty 2 is definitely one to try out. The humour is light, if sometimes cheesy, and the gameplay is certainly intriguing. Whilst it’s not without its flaws (but then what game isn’t?), this is still a highly accessible title. If Majesty 2 was an 80’s TV show, I’d certainly watch it.

And TrueGameHeadz concludes with a 4/5:

Despite its flaws, (Majesty 2’³ is a great game. While the Freestyle mode will be missed, it is replaced with more polished mechanics from the original and more meatier content. The basics have remained the same so those who feared for the worst can be relieved. This is definitely a worthy sequel to one of the most underrated games and worth checking out.
