Mass Effect 2/Dragon Age: Origins Interview

Polygamia.pl has interviewed Jay Watamaniuk of BioWare, asking him mostly about Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins, but also about various other, more general topics.

Aren’t you afraid that you moved the genre forward with ME, but Dragon Age is too conservative? Too long dialogues, too many icons?

We have been requested by fans for many years to make another Baldur’s Gate. Dragon Age is kind of an answer to that. Yes, we had to update the technology and make the systems simpler these days, because games like Baldur’s Gate are not really made, in a way, anymore. So we had to find a kind of a balance. Mass Effect, on one side, is very fast,  very accessible. The purpose of Dragon Age is to pull the super hardcore RPG fans who have less and less games to play a bit into modern RPG gaming.

We have streamlined the process of character creation. We also have the option of selecting the default character.  What level of detail you want to involve yourself in is your choice. Your party can do well on their own, but you can also choose to control their actions directly or use the tactics menu and give very specific commands. But if you don’t want to, you don’t have to.
