Mass Effect Redemption Issue #1 Review

While not specificially video game-related, I thought it was worth pointing out that the guys at Panels on Pages have reviewed the first issue of Dark Horse’s Mass Effect Redemption comic book series. The book gets 3.5 of 5 “exploding alien heads”:

As someone with no familiarity with the game, this first issue piqued my interest. I’m a sucker for good science fiction, and this issue introduced me to an interesting universe full of quirky, original characters. My favorite was the alien barfly whose voice cannot evoke emotion so he is forced to comment on how he is saying something as he says it. The script gives a good idea of what the game is like, as certain scenes read like cut scenes from a video game. The art is bright and colorful but otherwise nothing special. Mass Effect: Redemption gets props for telling an interesting and relatively accessible story to those coming in with no prior knowledge of this world or its characters and left me wanting to read more.
