Might & Magic Heroes VI Reviews

We have rounded up yet another batch of reviews for Ubisoft and Black Hole Entertainment’s sixth installment of the Heroes of Might & Magic franchise, which seems to be garnering a mixed reception so far.

Just Push Start, 3/5.

The game’s ridiculous online components give a poor first impression, the introduction to the storyline is a second strike, as it’s a rush of names and relationships, acting like a sequel to a narrative that doesn’t exist. Yet it’s worth making the effort to work past those problems as this is still a Heroes game, one of the great strategy series in video gaming history. The graphics and effects are appropriately impressive for 2011, the game offers a huge amount of single-player content, with dense campaigns for each of its five factions, as well as the usual multiplayer options. Its bells and whistles can be off-putting, but otherwise, Might & Magic: Heroes VI demonstrates why it’s one of the longest-running series in strategy gaming.

GameDynamo, 67/100.

Even after all these years, the Heroes series is a fun play, although nothing life-changing or impressive. Though Heroes VI looks fairly decent aesthetically, along with an okay soundtrack and effects library, you won’t be dropping your jaw over anything. Whether you are new to the series or an old fan, you’ll enjoy Might & Magic: Heroes VI if you’re looking for a really basic fantasy, turn-based strategy game. If you are looking for anything else, then you may want to stay with your other RTS games.

Good Game Stories, 12.5/20.

HEX
Yeah, you may want to multitask with some handheld games… Baj, I think this is really one for fans; the devs have said they worked alongside the community for this one, so perhaps if you’re a Heroes veteran you’ll really appreciate some of the more subtle changes and really get into it. Even so, the battles are quite fun and there’s a good variety of factions to mix up the combat.

BAJO
Along with the lack of any kind of tutorial, I found navigating the world a bit frustrating Hex – hotkeys help, but the clicking and pathfinding felt a little unpolished to me. I struggled here – I mean, even an epic strategy game like Civ 5 teaches you its ins and outs better.

ZTGD, 8.5/10.

Might and Magic: Heroes VI extends the tradition of complex strategy with infinite replayability that the series is known for. It is the perfect blend of RPG and turn-based strategy, giving players that like a personal relationship with the characters as well as those that simply enjoy sending nameless masses to their death something to love. There is a lot for new players to take in, but those that put in the time will find that there is nothing else quite like Might and Magic.

Talking About Games, C+.

If you’re satisfied with another incremental upgrade to the genre, Heroes VI will do just fine. But if you say you want a turn based fantasy strategy revolution, well you know we all want to change the gaming world, but this game isn’t some great evolution. It’s just all right.

GameTrailers seems pleased, 7.9/10.
