Morrowind Preview

It’s open season on the Morrowind beta build, and once again there’s a well written preview of the immensely satisfying RPG at the EvilAvatar, including some extremely nice outdoor scans. Here’s an excerpt:

Interface is a huge factor when playing any game that has the potential to last over one hundred hours. Morrowind’s main game screen contains your health, mana and endurance bars displayed at the bottom left of the screen. Also showing on the left is your current readied weapon and spell slots. The bottom right side of the screen shows any stat buffs you have active along with a mini-map that shows your immediate area. It’s a simple in-game view that leaves about 95% of the screen open for viewing the game world itself, which is nice. With a simple right click you can pull up the full interface that displays everything you could ever need. Inventory, stats, magic and a map that shows the immediate area or the whole world if you wish it to. To equip armor and weapons you simply have to drag and drop the items onto the paper doll representation and voila, it’s equipped. To ready a spell in your spell slot all you do it click on it once in the magic menu.

As you can see, he goes into quite a lot of detail about the mechanics of playing. In constrast, our preview posted yesterday details more of the questing and exploration aspects.
