Overlord Reviews

A handful of favorable reviews for Triumph Studios’ recently released Overlord start off the new week. The first is at ZTGameDomain with an overall score of 8.5/10:

I’d highly recommend this game; it’s funny and addictive, with beautiful graphics and the novel mechanic of controlling a minion horde. However, if you’re looking for a high level of challenge, you may be disappointed. Also, the game is more funny than dark; if you’re looking for a truly angst-filled game, try The Darkness instead. Finally, there are some minor annoyances– voice work inconsistency, graphics glitches, and the lack of an automap. On the whole, though, Triumph Studios should be proud of what they’ve created, and I hope there’s a sequel.

The second is at Games32 with an overall score of 87/100:

A well designed game and an unexpected surprise. Innovation and a mixture of game genres are keywords for this game. A hidden jewel that you must try no matter the age!

The third is at Planet Xbox 360 with an overall score of 7.2/10:

Overlord is the kind of game that sits right in the middle of the teeter-totter of ‘rent versus buy’. It is an easy game to recommend as a rental, with a solid single-player story mode that will take over 10 hours to complete, but is not without blemishes and lacks the multiplayer options to extend gameplay beyond the first go-around; needed to purchase a game.

And the fourth is at A.V. Club with an overall score of “C”:

…watching other people do your work is addictive. Think of yourself as the middle-manager: You’re just following the strategy you’re given, and as long as your team doesn’t screw up, you can sit back and watch as everything just works out.
