Riftrunner Peek of the Week #4

The fourth installment of RPGVault’s “Peek of the Week” feature for the upcoming Divine Divinity sequel is now available. This time, Larian’s Frederik De Caster talks about object interactivity in the Divinity world. Check it out:

Riftrunner, just like Divinity 1, has a world that is highly interactive. This means that most of the objects in the world can be used, moved around, picked up… In this Peek of the Week, we would like to offer a look behind the scenes at the interactivity in Riftrunner.

Having such a large choice of things to do with objects translates itself into having a lot of data for every object, which needs to be filled in correctly. Currently, Riftrunner has over 10,000 different object types, and the number increases every day. For each of these objects, about 70 properties have to be set, and some objects such as weapons need even more data such as damage, requirements… For story-related objects, it is sometimes even necessary to assign different properties so a single object can have different object properties than its type.
