Roguelike Games @ RPGDot

RPGDot has a new feature to bring the genre of roguelike games into the spotlight. They’ve posted an article entitled “Introducing the Roguelike genre”, which is a short history of the genre. Here’s a small excerpt:

Roguelike games are turn based single player CRPGs that use ASCII or simple (16- or 32-bit) graphic tiles +++and they usually are freeware++. The name of this genre is derived from the game Rogue (first released around 1980). But it is not sure, that Rogue was the first roguelike, at least there are some very old and primitve (first released around 1975) DnD computer games although probably most of the later roguelike makers didn’t know them.
