Skyrim Steam Workshop File Limits Removed

The restrictions placed on file size for the mods on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s Steam Workshop have been lifted by Bethesda, though the change is going to go through a one-week beta period before going live for everyone. Previously, mods on the Steam Workshop had to stay under 100 mb of size, which meant that the larger mods were usually only hosted on the Nexus. While it’s worth noting that file size doesn’t necessarily always correlate with size and quality, it’s nice to have a handy, user-friendly repository for all kinds of mods. On top of that, the mod downloads will now be managed directly by Steam, and not by the Skyrim launcher.

If you’re willing to test this update while it’s still in beta, here are the instructions:

  • Log into Steam
  • Click on your game Library.
  • Right click on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and select Properties.
  • Click on the Betas tab, and from the drop down select beta Skyrim Beta
  • Next from Library, access Tools from the drop down.
  • Right click on Creation Kit and select Properties.
  • Click on the Betas tab, and from the drop down select beta Creation Kit Beta
  • Steam will now restart. After Steam restarts, Skyrim will be updated to the Beta version currently available.
