Star Wars: KotOR II Reviews

Several more reviews have hit the web over the past few days for LucasArts and Obsidian’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II. The first is over at Electric Playground with an overall score of 8.5/10:

A PC version of KOTOR 2 is pending, which will hopefully correct the glitches that stand out like a zit on an otherwise beautiful face. And you’ll get your money’s worth with replays: trying to convert every character to a Jedi or Sith, trying the romantic subplots… I am half way through my second play. Even with its flaws, KOTOR remains not only a high point of the Xbox RPG scene, but of the entire Star Wars franchise.

The second is at Talk Xbox with an overall score of 9.3/10:

What’s left to say about the follow up to the hit game of last year, KOTOR? The story is more of a mystery and allows for a third and even fourth or fifth entry into the series, so fans will be pleased with getting more games from this this franchise in the future. With LucasArts/Obsidian having said that downloadable content will be available in the future (even though it’s not on the back of the box this time around), it will be a huge plus to have the ability to play it again with new content. If you have a chance to pick up KOTOR 2 you shouldn’t pass up the offer, as this game could be the sleeper hit of the year with the lack of advertising and marketing on the title currently. This will be in my collection forever and is already one of my favorite RPG’s of all time. Don’t miss out on this instant Xbox classic.

The third is at the GamersMark Network with an overall score of 8.7/10:

Putting all of this into a nutshell isn’t too difficult at all. KotOR II is the same game as the first with a new, darker story. That alone may be enough to satisfy the needs of a few gamers, but for others it’s nowhere near what is desired from a true sequel. A sequel should improve on the faults of the first and The Sith Lords doesn’t attempt to improve anything and in the end feels a lot like a typical Electronic Arts rehash. Even worse is the fact that due to a lack of real difficulty the game can be a bore; its battle system doesn’t really involve much strategy. With that said, it seems that a true real-time battle system similar to Nintendo’s 3d Legend of Zelda games would be more fitting for the next game. Although, the appeal of talking to incredible amounts of NPCs, exploring new worlds and completing all sorts of side missions still makes the game incredibly enjoyable. The Sith Lords is a good second act, but it’s no Empire Strikes Back.

The fourth is at Game Vortex with an overall score of 96%:

A few technical hiccups aside, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords manages to build on everything that made the first game great. Even if you haven’t tried out the first one, The Sith Lords is a game that few should miss out on.

And the fifth is at GameDreamz with an overall score of 8.75/10:

What it all comes down to is, if you are a Star Wars fan, you will want to check this game out. Despite some of its shortcomings, it is still a very good game. Not to mention, like its predecessor, it is Jar-Jar free and any Star Wars without him, can’t be all that bad.
