Sword Coast Legends Campaign First Look Video

Update: The pre-recorded gameplay portion of the stream has now been published on YouTube, and in better quality to boot. I’d actually suggest just watching the video and skipping the archived stream now:

Original story: I didn’t have the chance to watch n-Space’s gameplay stream of Sword Coast Legends while it was live, but luckily a recording is available on Twitch. It’s a relatively short stream (only 20 minutes) and the gameplay part that starts around the 07:51 mark is pre-recorded, but it’s still worth a watch considering we had never seen some proper single-player footage before.

The gameplay looks pretty close to BioWare’ Neverwinter Nights but with party-based combat, and the slice the developers chose to show included some dialogue, dungeon delving (the party’s rogue had to uncover a secret door), and some light choices and consequences (because a character was apparently spared in a previous adventure, he’d now help the party against some undead).

It’s incredibly difficult to judge the writing based on about 10 minutes of footage, but the locales shown were old Forgotten Realms classics (the city of Luskan and its surroundings) and the characters’ lines and voice acting seemed pretty over-the-top and close to tried and true fantasy stereotypes. That said, I have to stress that those were just about 10 minutes of footage, and that a final judgment based on those would be hasty at best.
