The Bard’s Tale Reviews

Three more reviews have surfaced for inXile’s The Bard’s Tale, two of which are both located at Warcry. They’ve actually reviewed both the PS2 and Xbox versions of the game in two entirely different articles with different scores. The Xbox version gets a 8.2/10:

Finally, as I mentioned earlier, all of your party are spirits that you call up with your songs, so they are not exactly bosom buddies and are actually not very friendly. Luckily, the developers have thought about it and they have given you a companion. A puppy.that’s right, you have a puppy that will follow you around. He is pretty good at getting his ass handed to him, but in time you will learn to love your puppy. The developers try to screw that up, but I will let you play the game to find out how that turns out.

And the PS2 version gets a 7.5/10:

It’s an enjoyable romp, but rather short in duration and rather shallow in story. Rabid fans of the old franchise should snap this up promptly. Others should just rent it or wait for it to show up in the bargain bin.

The third review is over at Console Gold where they’ve given the game an overall score of 88%:

Bard’s Tale takes a decently realized world and puts it in your hands as a decent action RPG. The world is detailed and interesting to be in, with only some annoying graphical issues. The dialog (written and spoken) is amazing to listen to, and funny to boot. It is a complete package that works, and will provide a nice diversion to people who enjoyed any of the Baldur’s Gate console games, or Champions of Norrath.
