The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria Reviews

A handful of new online reviews are now available for Turbine’s The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria expansion pack. The first is at VideoGamer with a score of 8/10:

Mines of Moria is a quality MMORPG expansion, no doubt about it. With two new classes, a massive new area to explore and the Legendary Weapons system, there’s loads for fans to get stuck into. Some will bemoan the lack of attention given to bettering the PvP experience (what we can safely say is LotRO’s weak point), but we’d say the biggest flaw with the expansion is that there’s nothing here that will expand the LotRO user base. Indeed The Mines of Moria itself is only a valid area for exploration once you’re a high level. Still, existing players won’t care too much about that. For them, well, they’re just happy the giant doors of Khazad-dûm are open at all.

The second is at IncGamers with a score of 9.1/10:

LotRO is one MMORPG we think gets constantly overlooked, but maybe gamers are waking up to the fact that this is solid MMO. This is not only one of the best looking MMOs on the market, but one of the most playable and enjoyable thanks to its Tolkien tie-in. LotRO may not have the PvP appeal of others, despite new tweaks in Moria, but it delivers on so many other levels.

The third is at D+PAD with a score of 4/5:

Although there are plenty of new and exciting additions on o er, the new content doesn’t change the standard formula (slow paced level progression, crafting, fetch-quests and so on), so if you aren’t already psyched about the MMORPG genre, or at least interested in pursuing it, this expansion is unlikely to change that. For anyone already enjoying Shadows of Angmar, however, Mines of Moria is a near-essential purchase, not only in regard to progressing through the Lord of the Rings storyline, but in o ering a fresh style of play through the new classes and a lengthy boost to the game’s lifespan.

And the fourth is at Cheat Code Central with a score of 3.8/5:

The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria is a fun and more-than-significant increase in content for its players. Turbine has definitely done a great job of capturing the epic nature of Khazad-Dum, especially when it came to its world design and visual style. Veteran players who have been waiting for more places to explore in Middle-Earth should not pass up the opportunities found in Mines of Moria. However, the expansion does little to entice newcomers to join the world, considering the only new content they could experience from the start are the two new character classes. Mines of Moria is a must-buy expansion for veteran players of the original, but it will not provide a lot of immediate satisfaction for people thinking about picking up both it and the original for the first time.
