The Secret World Review

1UP is offering an extremely positive review for Funcom’s latest MMO, the conspiracy-laden The Secret World, praising the game’s writing, setting and investigation missions, while overall being less enthusiastic about the game’s mechanics. Their conclusions:

It’s a bit of a gamble to trust players with that degree of freedom. Then again, The Secret World basically amounts to a long series of risks on the part of the developers. This is, after all, an M-rated, subscription-based MMO with a non-fantasy setting, characters who routinely monologue for several minutes before sending you off on a mission, and quests that expect the average gamer to recognize the works of Antonio Vivaldi.

I’m kind of in love with the thing.
