Underspace Available in Early Access – Fight Lovecraftian Monsters in a Spaceship!

If you’ve never heard of Underspace, it is an “arcade-style space shooting, trading, and storm chasing game.” But even this description from the dev website, Pastaspace Interactive, doesn’t quite grasp the scale of this lesser-known game. Lucky for you, if you want to discover for yourself what the game holds, then you don’t have to wait — the game is now available in early access for Steam. (If you didn’t already, you can also check out our Underspace Early Access Preview to learn more about the game.)

This announcement came with an interesting trailer that wasn’t the most industry standard. Usually, games entering early access have trailers that show off the game’s unique gameplay, story, and mechanics. Underspace went with a bolder approach, showcasing snippets of streamers playing the game and their genuine reactions.

We appreciate it when developers try new things, and honestly, if your game is getting these kinds of reactions, we understand why you would format the early access trailer in this way. However, gamers these days are a bit more skeptical than they’ve been in the past. Maybe you don’t know the streamers in the trailer, and you would’ve preferred more information on the game. Fortunately, we’ve compiled all the details from the dev site and Steam listing to inform you better about what to expect in this early access title:

  • Spiritual successor to Freelancer
  • Traverse over 70 handcrafted star systems
  • 20 unique bosses
  • Over 40 different factions
  • Over 50 unique side quests
  • Ship over 50 different types of cargo to 150 stations
  • PvP/co-op multiplayer
  • Both singleplayer and multiplayer have their own unique campaigns and content.
  • Day 1 mod support

If all that info wasn’t enough to put the scale of this title into perspective, and you want the more nitty-gritty details, then you can read our preview of Underspace. Supposing you like games that have you gallivanting around in a spaceship, exploring a galaxy teeming with lore and life, blasting giant Lovecraftian bosses, and collecting loot to sell for better stuff, then you should probably keep an eye on this one.

What about the potential buyers that want to see more gameplay? The first trailer released six months ago, and we think it did a terrific job presenting the many color pallets, mysterious space environments, and titanic bosses. Also, there is a free demo available on the dev site, so you have no excuse not to check it out!

What did you think of the game and trailer? Did it intrigue you enough to try it out? Tell us your thoughts in a comment!
