Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Is Getting a Massive Free Update

Fatshark’s co-op first-person melee slash-em-up is getting a major content update on April 20th. The new expansion, Chaos Wastes, will add an entirely new mode of play to Vermintide 2 in the form of a rogue-lite style expedition to the Citadel of Eternity, a rumored ancient ruin where mortals can seek the favor of the gods.

Chaos Wastes is adding a lot of new content to the game. In addition to the rogue-lite campaign, which includes a planning phase, there will be new weapons, boons, miracles, a ton of new potions, and 15 new locations to discover. The new update will also decrease the diskspace the game takes up, which is a blessing given that with all the expansions installed, Vermintide 2 now takes up over 100GB.

In the Chaos Wastes, each expedition will be different, as befitting a proper rogue-lite. From the looks of things, each of the new locations will be semi-procedurally generated each time you enter it. There are also some areas that may be cursed by various rulers, further altering the location (and perhaps the enemies there) and requiring you to alter your strategy and tactics. You’ll also run the risk of losing the loot you’ve accumulated if you fail to make it to the end of your run.

All-in-all, it’s an impressive amount of fresh stuff. Previous Vermintide 2 DLCs were paid content, so Chaos Wastes being a free update ought to be a very pleasant surprise for current players.

Chaos Wastes will be playable on April 20th for PC players, and “as soon as possible” for consoles. You can read more about the new content on the official page, and consult the Pilgrim’s Guide to learn specifics about how to prepare for your expedition to the Citadel of Eternity.
