Wasteland 2 Interview

French website Dagon’s Lair is next in line with an interview with inXile’s Brian Fargo about his Wasteland 2 Kickstarter project, though it appears to have been submitted before news broken of Obsidian Entertainment’s potential involvement. A snip:

Let’s talk about Wasteland 2. Was it always in your mind to create a follow up to the first game ? If so, why did you wait 20 years to do it ? When did you have the idea to use kickstarter ? When did it become obvious it was the good way to proceed ? Can you elaborate ?

I have always wanted to do a sequel but I was never in the right position to do so. I either didn’t have the rights to or no publisher wanted to help fund the project so it sat in limbo. I witnessed the success of Double Fine as did many fans of the old RPGs because they started to send me tweets and FB messages right away about fan funding a Wasteland 2. I had literally put the design documents away for Wasteland 2 forever just weeks prior to all this. Once I saw a glimmer of hope I sprung into gear and started working on the video, talked to old team members, worked on production plans, got a website up etc. It was a crazy three weeks but obviously it was all worth it. I dropped everything I was working on to give this a game a chance.
