Skyrim Fan Uses Amulet of Mara to Propose Marriage

Everyone loves a good romance story. Skyrim fans included.

Amulet of Mara… For Real!

In a case of video game meets reality, a clever Skyrim fan proposed to his lady love with an honest to goodness, real life Amulet of Mara (if you’re wondering, you need an Amulet of Mara to get hitched in Skyrim — you can read the particulars in The Easy Way To Get Married In Skyrim here).

In an interview given to Kotaku, Sarah Briody tells how she’d introduced her boyfriend to Skyrim, explaining that “he enjoys every minute of the game.” So when it came time to finally pop the question to Briody, this Skyrim fan did so in unmistakable style by giving her an Amulet of Mara.

Briody at first didn’t realize what was happening, but after putting on the amulet, her boyfriend said, “Is that an Amulet of Mara? I’m surprised someone like you isn’t spoken for.” He then dropped to one knee and slipped an engagement ring on her finger.

She said yes, then posted the following picture of the Amulet of Mara and her engagement ring on Reddit.

Another Fairy Tale Ending

Sarah Briody’s wonderful story brings to mind another happy ending for a couple that bonded over a video game.

In a recent BioWare blog article published this February, Jameela Cameron tells how she met her future husband, Tyler, while playing Mass Effect 3. The two bonded over their mutual interest in the game and soon fell in love, eventually getting married. Obviously, Tyler didn’t propose with an Amulet of Mara, but the couple did walk down the aisle and exchange vows accompanied by music from the Mass Effect 3 soundtrack.

A year later, they each got Mass Effect tattoos to commemorate their love and the video game that brought them together.

Final Thoughts

So will you meet your true love playing your favorite video game? Sarah Briody and Jameela Cameron most certainly did, and as their unique stories illustrate anything is possible…

So keep this in mind the next time you strike up a conversation with that cute looking Wood Elf in The Elder Scrolls Online or your favorite co-op. There very well may be an Amulet of Mara in your future.
