Super Skyrim Bros. Is All In Good Fun

Super Skyrim Bros. transports the Dragonborn into a Nintendo dream world.

Are you a Skyrim purist that can’t stand mods? Mods that tinker with game immersion and render one of the world’s greatest RPGs completely unrecognizable? If so, you might want to take a few deep breaths and calm yourself. Super Skyrim Bros., is a mod that transforms Skyrim into a Nintendoesque world full of Goombas, mushrooms, and plumber’s hammers.

All right, maybe “transforms” is a bit of an overstatement. Rather, with Super Skyrim Bros., the Dragonborn plays a Skyrim mini game after sleeping in an abandoned house outside of Winterhold. Once the Dragonborn drifts into la-la land, he’s transported into a dream world where the fun begins Nintendo-style.

According to clintmich, the mod’s creator, Super Skyrim Bros. doesn’t break immersion:

The Super Skyrim Bros mini game has been implemented into Skyrim in a lore friendly way. AS A DREAM! This should not break any lore as IT IS A DREAM! ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN A DREAM! Right?

clintmich makes a valid point, though I can’t imagine the Dragonborn actually dreaming about monkey stomping a group of angry Koopa Troopas. If you’re an immersion stickler, just pretend that the Dragonborn downed a bottle of skooma-spiked mead before falling asleep.

Dragonborn + bad hooch = suspended disbelief.

All In Good Fun

Seriously though, no matter how you feel about mods and immersion in general, you have to admit that Super Skyrim Bros. is strangely fascinating. clintmich wasn’t afraid to take two beloved franchises and meld them together in a new, creative way. The mod pays homage to video gaming, with no intention to ruin Skyrim or dis the RPG in any fashion. Super Skyrim Bros. is presented in a clever way that respects the feelings of Skyrim purists. So lighten up, true sons and daughters of Skyrim! Dress in your finest overalls and grab your favorite hammer, because Super Skyrim Bros. is all in good fun.
