Starfield Best Mods

Even though Starfield has barely started its Early Access, fans are already creating a variety of mods for the game, with Bethesda confirming that they will support the creation of many more. A few of these mods change up or enhance the graphics in the form of reshades, while others can give you an immediate boost by giving you access to all boosts, materials, and equipment in the game. Of course, there are also visual content mods to help change how your character or NPCs look.

The mods can be found on Nexus Mods, and there are already plenty of options to go through. So, in this guide we will go over how to install these mods, and what some of the best ones are that are currently available.

Note: Using some of these mods will prevent you from earning Achievements (though, right now you also install the Achievement Enabler mod to bypass that).

How to Install & Run Mods

Before you look through the mods list and decide what you want, you will want to make sure you know how to install them. Luckily, it’s a very straightforward process:

  • After downloading your chosen mod, extract the contents of its .zip file and move it to the main Starfield folder in your PC.
    • If you’re playing on Steam, you can find it by looking at the game’s options in your Steam Library. Go to Manage, then press ‘Browse Local Files’ to open the folder.
    • If you are playing through the Xbox Store app, the folder will be in Documents/My Games/Starfield.
  • Restart the game after you extract the files, and the mod should be working!

Some mods (particularly the ones that boost your character) will require a couple of extra steps.

  • After installing, open up the game and load the save you want to modify.
  • Open the Console Commands menu by pressing the Tilde key ( ~ ).
  • Type the command needed to turn the mod on — this will be a specific word or two for each mod, and you can find what to type on their respective mod page.

A few mods will require extra steps that will be listed on their page, but this will get you going on most of them!

Starfield Best Mods

Now that you know how to install the mods, let’s take a look at what some of the best mods are!

Starfield FOV

Do you wish that you had the ability to adjust your field of view? This mod is will grant you what you want, allowing you to adjust your view for both first person and third person! You can set the value of the FOV for each mode to either zoom the camera in or out, depending on your preference.

Starfield Upscaler

Since Starfield is sponsored by AMD, it unfortunately didn’t come with support for Nvidia DLSS or Intel XeSS supersampling to run it, making the game not as optimal for non-AMD users. This mod fixes this, allowing you to truly optimize the game for your PC setup. It is worth noting that this mod currently doesn’t support DLSS3, but be on the lookout for a future update to the mod to fix that.

DualSense – PS5 Icons

A common annoyance in most games on Steam is that they will only display Xbox controls to you, even if you’re using a PlayStation controller — Starfield is no exception. This simple mod fixes that issue, allowing you to see controls with the appropriate PS5 icons.

Killable Essential NPCs – No Essential NPCs

This mod is for people who love doing full chaotic runs in their games. Normally, NPCs will be invincible, meaning that even if you shoot them, they won’t die. This mod turns the switch off on that feature, allowing you to kill NPCs just like you could any other enemy. This mod is perfect if you’re looking to do a full genocide run!

Character Boost/Spawn Items Mods

This isn’t a single mod, but rather a set of mods that will grant you various things — this includes all Perks, all Materials, and all of just about everything else! If you just want to breeze through the game, or have free reign to experiment with your character right away, these are the mods for you.

Since the game just came out (and only in Early Access, even!), this is only the beginning. If the modding options for other Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout are anything to go by, the amount will grow exponentially in the upcoming weeks, and will alter many more aspects of the game. We will keep updating this guide accordingly.

If you want to check out the full list of mods and keep yourself updated with them, take a look at the Nexus Mods page to see much more! Let us know if you see something we should include on the list in the comments below!

I'm a huge gamer who especially loves the Final Fantasy series. I will play just about any game, especially if it has anything resembling a Dragoon.
