Children of the Sky – New Imagine Dragons “Starfield Song” Drops

Timing their release less than half a day before the launch of Starfield on Early Access, Imagine Dragons released a new single today, about a day before the Early Access launch of the game. The song, “Children of the Sky (A Starfield Song)” released with both a lyric video featuring panoramic in-game scenes from Starfield, as well as a music video (on Bethesda’s channel) promoting the game itself. Both, of course, feature as Dan Reynold’s powerful vocals and the band’s captivating orchestration play in the background.

The washed out lyrics of the video talk about the titular “Children of the Sky” as they perservere and rise up, all very relevant themes for the “NASA-punk” setting of Starfield, while the minor key and washed-out instrumentals perfectly fit the game’s sometimes-desolate nature. All this before the song increases in bombast before the end into righteous swells, timed with beautiful in-game moments.

The song dropped at the end of a countdown on the band’s interactive Glitch.ge website which featured a starry background and timer as spaceships with the Constellation logo, astronauts, and sandwiches floated by, leading many to guess at the nature of the release hours before its release (even though they did eventually remove the floating objects prior to the timer’s end). Once the countdown ended, the song released on Youtube, Spotify, Apple Music, and a few other music streaming locales, as well as on the website itself.

Unfortunately, we missed out on the spaceships and sandwiches in this screenshot.

This is not the first time the band has released a single in advance of a video game; back in 2012, Imagine Dragon’s “Radioactive” featured in the launch trailer for Assassin’s Creed 3, and then in 2014 they collaborated with Riot Games to release “Warriors” to help promote that year’s League of Legends World Championship. For what it’s worth, it sounds like Imagine Dragons has done it again — released a song that both stands on it’s own, and perfectly serves the game it is promoting. Seems like I know what I’ll be listening to on repeat until Starfield’s launch tomorrow.
