The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Reviews

A week after its release we have rounded up more reviews, all pretty much unanimously enthusiastic, for Bethesda’s latest chapter in the Elder Scrolls franchise, the snowy Skyrim, for your perusal.

Kotaku, scoreless.

In the early hours of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim a single word is heard, echoing from the heavens. “Dovahkiin” exclaims a mysterious voice, urging you to embark on a heroic quest to save the world. “Dovahkiin” is also Bethesda’s call to arms, beckoning any gamer that’s ever dreamt of traversing a magical land armed with spell and steel to an unforgettable role-playing experience. Ignore it at your own peril.

Stuff, 9.5/10.

Where Oblivion may have caused many to sit on the fence when faced with any new Elder Scrolls release, Skyrim stands tall in redemption. It is, without any shadow of doubt, the best RPG experience available right now.

GameShark, A.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a remarkable achievement that despite from a few niggling bugs is an undertaking unlike any other. This could quite easily be the only game you purchase for the next several months and still provide you with a complete sense of satisfaction. There are few titles that offer such an incredible level of value without resorting to multiplayer and for that I applaud Bethesda. Skyrim is a role-playing masterpiece.

Xbox360Achievements, 99/100.

Simply put, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has raised the bar in the RPG genre, offering a plethora of engaging and unique content in one of the most immersive and beautiful game worlds ever created. Plus, any game that uses the word (lollygagging) deserves eternal praise.

NY Daily News, 5/5.

It all adds up to one of the finest open-world RPG experiences you will ever play through. But don’t take my word for it, because words can only explain so much.

In the case of (Skyrim,) seeing and experiencing are the only true way to understand.

Middle East Gamers, 9.5/10.

Skyrim is like a music album that has a few tracks that you aren’t particularly fond of, but rest of the music is pure aural blliss that you can’t help but think of the album as close to perfection as possible. I can’t point to a single part of the game and say (that is the best part); the entire game is an experience. It stays firmly rooted in Elder Scrolls gameplay, yet with enough improvements and additions (and subtractions) to make Skyrim stand on its own. After experiencing the vast, dense and incredibly detailed world of Skyrim, you can’t help but snicker whenever another game is referred to as (open world).

The Sidney Morning Herald, 9/10.

When all is said and done, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an imposing and remarkable game. There are some small problems, but when compared to the experience as a whole, the issues pale in comparison. Regardless of whether you’ve never played an RPG before or have devoured every Bethesda offering to date, Skyrim is near the best RPG of our generation and should be experienced by everyone with even a passing interest in dragons, and who doesn’t have one of those?

The Wall Street Journal, scoreless.

As my teenage nephew posted on his Facebook wall: (I’ve got stuff to do today. But I DON’T WANT TO DO STUFF. I just want to play Skyrim.) My sentiments exactly. Once you start playing Skyrim, no matter what time limit you set, you can’t stop playing. And that’s the real test of a great game.

Gamestyle, 10/10.

There have been some amazing games released in 2011. Gamers have been spoiled with Portal, Battlefield, Batman Arkham City, Call Of Duty, Crysis 2, the list goes on. Yet here is Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, an absolute masterpiece, the more you invest in the game, the more you get out of it. A truly epic game that deserves all of the plaudits. It is more than a just game, it is an experience.

PlayStation LifeStyle, 10/10.

In terms of raw value, $60 seems like a paltry sum for the massive amounts of content and gameplay within Skyrim’˜s heights. It will certainly prove to be the Game of the Year contender everyone can agree upon and continue that sentiment through 2012.

Console Monster, 95%.

Even with these issues there is only one way to describe Skyrim and that is epic. There is so much to see, do and experience that it’s exceedingly easy to get lost in the fantasy. It’s not a remarkable or radical departure from Oblivion, so if that game left you cold, Skyrim will too. For those who embraced that lifestyle, you will find Skyrim is Oblivion+++. Buy it now, ditch all your responsibilities and say goodbye to the rest of 2011 and perhaps even 2012 as well.
