Valheim 2021 Roadmap Revealed: New Biome, Ships, and More

With Valheim’s launch, developer Iron Gate Studio also shared the game’s roadmap, which promises at least four updates over the rest of 2021:

  • Update 1: Hearth and Home
  • Update 2: Cult of the Wolf
  • Update 3: Ships and the Sea
  • Update 4: New Biome — Mistlands

There is also a section of the roadmap — “If Odin Wills It” — for additions and improvements that may or may not find their way into the game:

  • Multiplayer Interactions
  • Combat Improvements
  • Moon Phases
  • Tar Pits
  • Vendor Inventory Expansion
  • Svartalfr Brigands
  • More Unique Locations
  • Sandbox Mode
  • Munin

Some of these items are fairly self explanatory, like the Ships and the Sea update or the new Mistlands biome. Other features are less clear, and Iron Horse has yet to go into any detail about what they might entail. The Cult of the Wolf update certainly is intriguing; whether it entails a cult the player can join, or if the cult is a potential enemy to the player, remains to be seen. Svartalfr Brigands seem likely to be roaming enemies, perhaps even ones that attack the player’s base.

In Norse mythology, Munin is the name of the raven that flew with Hugin (the raven that serves as the game’s tutorial), but what role Munin could play in Valheim is anyone’s guess. Perhaps he could serve as a way for players to communicate in game, or maybe he’ll function as his fellow raven does and act as a kind of guide for the player.
