New Mistlands Gameplay Trailer

The highly anticipated Mistlands update gameplay trailer dropped at 6am PST this Tuesday. With only about 30 seconds of footage, it turned out to be more of a teaser trailer. And yet it was jam-packed with never-before-seen content, so we’ll give you all the juicy highlights anyway!

Iron Gate has been dribbling out tidbits of Mistlands content for weeks now, but it is amazing how much they kept secret. At the top of the list is how much ranged magical weapons will play a role in the Mistlands, with a craftable fire and ice staff. They will prove useful to take down a new flying foe and ward off lunging ticks and other giant insectoids.

While the Mountains biome may have the largest vertical change, the Mistlands may have the most difficult-to-manage terrain. With jutting spires and cliffs immersed in a thick fog, you will have to take on a host of new enemies on uneven ground. You won’t be the only magic-wielder in the Mistlands. The gameplay trailer revealed gnome-like wizards to rival your own magic prowess, as well as a necromancer flanked by a company of well-armed skeletons.

Of course, no reveal of a new Valheim biome would be complete without a quick peak at an amazing new tileset. The black marble building blocks make for sleek and imposing monoliths studded by iridescent blue torches and a cool new banner. We’ve already seen pictures of the new blacksmithing bench and some of the cooking stations. However, in the background of this shot we also get a sneak peak at a massive new cart. Is the crane to the right purely cosmetic, part of a workbench, or a crafting extension?

While you are building up a strong, defensible base and upgrading your tech to the point that you can subdue all the Mistlands mobs, don’t forget to go exploring. The vertical terrain variation and visual effects in the Mistlands biome are spectacular, and at least two new special areas (a dungeon and a boss room, perhaps?) await your discovery.

There is so much in this update: new crafting extensions, food options, potions, equipment, mobs, dungeons, and of course a new boss! The Mistlands biome is easily the largest yet in terms of new content. Check out the patch notes highlights below for details on what and how much is in the Mistlands expansion.

The best part of the gameplay teaser trailer, however, was the final screen announcing the Mistlands update was now live in the Public Testing Branch. Check out our short guide to trying out this beta!
