A Midnight Clear – Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone Quest

This guide is a walkthrough of a side quest in the Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone DLC. The guide is composed of a map, map legend, and walkthrough to show readers exactly where to go and what to do to complete the quest.

Background

You’ll trigger this quest at the end of the quest Dead Man’s Party.

Walkthrough

At the start of the quest, Gaunter O’Dimm will suggest that you chase after Shani, and that you offer her alcohol or flowers. The game will then show you four places where you can find such a gift, and you’ll have a choice between Chamomile, Mead, a Rowan Branch, or Rowanberry Brandy. To figure out which gift is “best,” you should refer to Shani’s character page — or just remember what she said earlier in the quest. Regardless of the gift you choose, you’ll earn 150 xp when you pick it up. The gift won’t actually make any difference in the quest.

When you deliver the gift to Shani, you’ll start a long conversation / cutscene with her. Only two things you say during the encounter will have any effect on the outcome. After kissing Shani, you’ll have a choice between “kiss sure didn’t sate me,” which will lead to a sex scene, or “let’s go back,” which will skip the sex scene. For the former, if you gave Shani alcohol as your gift, then she’ll find a bottle of wine on the dock, and you’ll have a choice between “you probably shouldn’t mix” or “let’s empty it.” The latter option will cause Shani to throw up at the end of the sex scene, but it won’t otherwise change anything.

The next morning, Shani will still be processing what happened during the night before, so she won’t have much to say to you. But you’ll ask her to look into Olgierd to see if there’s more to his story than you’ve learned so far. This request will complete the quest and earn you 150 xp.

Note: If you visit Shani in her Oxenfurt clinic after completing the quest, then she’ll decide that you’re better off remaining just friends. But you’ll also be able to play gwent with her, and if you win then you’ll receive the Olgierd von Everec card (melee / ranged 6 morale boost).
