Bovine Blues – Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Quest

You’ll trigger this quest by reading the note “Contract: Mysteriously Plummeting Cattle” on the notice board in Flovive in Toussaint South (#1).

Walkthrough

From the note, you’ll learn that cattle are falling out of the sky at Ardaiso Quarry (#2). When you head over there to investigate the matter, you’ll meet Foreman Pafnuzio, who will inform you that a worker named Emil was crushed by a falling cow, and that “some filth” are now prowling around the scene of the accident.

You’ll find what’s left of Emil and the cow in the northern part of the quarry, next to the notice board. When you get to their bodies, you’ll be attacked by three level 36 ghouls and one level 37 alghoul. After dispatching these necrophages, when you search the scene, you’ll figure out that the cow was dropped from a great height by a small wyvern, probably while the wyvern was flying back to its nest. Then when you examine the nearby broken crane, you’ll decide that the wyvern crashed into the crane, which is what caused it to drop the cow, and that it took a nasty wound from the impact. These deductions will earn you 50 xp.

The wyvern’s blood trail will lead you to the southeast, where you’ll come to an abandoned still (#3). Three level 38 rotfiends will attack you there, but once they’re out of the way and you’re able to search the site, you’ll see that the wyvern landed at the still and then crawled away to the east, too weak to continue flying.

When you follow the wyvern’s tracks, you’ll come to a place where it was helped by a larger wyvern (#4), and where the two of them then flew away. Luckily, you’ll detect that the smaller wyvern was still bleeding at the time, so you’ll be able to follow its trail to its nest. But along the way you’ll spot another cow, this one burned, and you’ll realize that you’re dealing with slyzards, not wyverns.

At the nest (#5), you’ll encounter the mother slyzard and her baby slyzard. You’ll start out only fighting the mother, but then once you’ve done enough damage to her, the baby slyzard will join in. After defeating the pair, you’ll find a leveled version of the silver sword Dahlia and a Slyzard Trophy on the mother’s corpse. You’ll also find some eggs in the slyzard nest. If you destroy them with Igni or a bomb, then you’ll earn 100 xp.

When you return to Pafnuzio (#2) after defeating the slyzards, you’ll receive your negotiated fee plus 200 xp for completing the quest.
