1 – Notice Board
2 – Reginald d’Aubry Exhibit
3 – Hughes’ Home

Background

You’ll trigger this quest by reading the note “Wanted: Discrete Specialist” on the notice board in Beauclair (#1).

Walkthrough

The note will advertise that Rolande de Flakfizer, a Curator of Art and Collectibles, is seeking somebody to “investigate the mystery of Reginald d’Aubry’s statue.” When you find Flakfizer, he’ll be in front of a group of angry onlookers (#2), trying to explain to them why the d’Aubry exhibit is closed. But when he spots you, Flakfizer will lead you into the exhibit and show you the statue — which you’ll discover is missing its stones / jewels / prized pouch.

To get an idea about what happened, you’ll need to turn on your witcher senses. Around the exhibit, you’ll find a diamond saw blade, precision cuts on the statue, some blood, and a piece of coat fabric. The fabric will reek of cologne, which you’ll be able to follow to a house to the west.

Inside the house (#3), you’ll discover the old but now virile thief Hughes having sex with a married woman named Rosalinda. However, when you accuse Hughes of the robbery, Rosalinda’s husband will barge into the house, and he’ll assume that you and Hughes are both having an affair with his wife — which means you’ll have to deal with him. You’ll have two choices for this. You can box him, or you can use Axii / Delusion on him. Either way, he’ll leave.

When you have a chance to talk again, Hughes will beg you to let him keep the stones. You’ll have three options for how to respond:

  • You can let Hughes keep the stones. He’ll pay you 50 crowns, and you’ll also earn 100 xp. Flakfizer the curator won’t pay you anything. However, when you return to Hughes a week later, you’ll find Rosalinda crying at his doorstep, and you’ll discover that Hughes died of overexertion.
  • You can let Hughes keep the stones for one more day. He’ll make good use of them — with Rosalinda’s cousin Louisa. But when you show up, he’ll admit that he’s worn out, and he’ll hand over the Reginald Statue’s Genitals. The quest will then proceed as if he had given up the stones right away (see below).
  • You can demand the stones from Hughes right away. This will cause him to reluctantly hand over the Reginald Statue’s Genitals. When you deliver this stolen package to Flakfizer the curator, he’ll reward you with a Reginald Figurine, and you’ll also earn 100 xp. If you then return to the exhibit the next day, you’ll be able to use the repaired statue, which will give you The Power of Reginald (increased stamina regeneration outside of combat) for one hour.

Note: The Reginald Figurine can be used as a decoration at Corvo Bianco Vineyard in Toussaint South.

Note: If you return the stones to the curator, then you’ll earn the Honor virtue for the quest There Can Be Only One. If you let Hughes keep the stones, then you’ll earn the Compassion virtue.
