Background

During the main quest The Mysterious Note, a man named Darus will get killed by an assassin. When you loot his corpse, you’ll find a Soulpiercer arrow. Picking up the arrow will give you the option of pursuing this quest, which you should do (there isn’t any upside to refusing).

Note: Whatever you do, don’t save your game right Darus’ death and then load it before looting his corpse. This will cause his body to turn into a loot bag, and picking up the arrow won’t trigger the quest.

Walkthrough

After accepting the quest, you’ll be able to ask certain people about Darus’ death and Soulpiercer arrows. Keebo (in Eastwillow, Yoma River Valley) will admire the arrow, but he won’t give you any leads. Korren (at the Guild of Crius Vindica) will tell you that the killer must be a “master assassin.” Erubor (also at the Guild of Crius Vindica) will recommend that you search for the killer under the streets of Port Kuudad.

You’ll find the assassin, a man named Zeblin, inside the Thieves’ Arcadia (#1), which is connected to the Port Kuudad Sewers (Exit A). Assuming you still have a Soulpiercer arrow with you — if not, then you can get one from the fletching room nearby (#2) — when you talk to Zeblin, he’ll make you an offer: if you give up your pursuit of him (which will fail the quest), then he’ll train you in Hide in Shadows, Move Silently, and Pick Locks. If you continue with the quest and attack Zeblin, then you’ll have a difficult fight on your hands (Zeblin is a much tougher version of the Shadow Assassin), but for defeating him you’ll complete the quest and earn 2300 xp.
