Walkthrough

You’ll trigger this quest when you read Erubor’s Letter, which you should have received at the end of the previous main quest. Erubor will ask you to look for more crux stones, and he’ll recommend that you talk to somebody named Karamiklan, who is being held prisoner by the warlord Alundar far to the north. To gain Alundar’s favor so he’ll allow you to visit his prison, you’ll need to acquire a suitable gift, and Erubor will suggest that you ask about such things in the Blackened Bone Tavern in Moonrise.

When you reach Moonrise and ask about the tavern, nobody will know anything about it, and most will say that the place sounds “dreadful.” However, after discussing the tavern with Shelta Marie (#1), you’ll get a new dialogue option where you can ask her about work. This will trigger the side quest The Sealed Letter, and completing it will earn you Shelta’s trust, which will cause her to give you the quest Baptism in Fire. Completing that quest will allow you to enter the Moonrise Underground (Exit A), which will lead you to Old Moonrise.

Note: You can also open the way into the Moonrise Underground by going to the cemetery in Moonrise (#4) and turning one of the headstones there. You can reach the cemetery via the back door of a nearby house (#2). Turning the headstone will open a secret door in the back of the Temple of Rai (#3), the same as if you had completed the quest Baptism in Fire.

You’ll find the Blackened Bone Tavern in Old Moonrise (#5). When you talk to Dannia there, she’ll reveal that she’s Alundar’s sister, and she’ll eventually come up with a gift that Alundar might like: the head of the Akadai Kingspawn, who was once responsible for wrecking one of Alundar’s very expensive spice shipments. Learning this will earn you 2000 xp.

At the end of the conversation, you’ll have to choose a way to pursue the gift. If you decide to kill the kingspawn and take his head, then you’ll receive the quest A King’s Head. If you decide to trick Alundar with a fake head, then you’ll receive the quest Finding Another Way. You can actually acquire both heads regardless, but you’ll only be able to complete one of the two quests.

Note: If you choose the quest Finding Another Way, then you’ll also trigger the quest The Secret of the Akadai when you talk to the Akadai Kingspawn, and you’ll end up earning at least 500 more xp.
